THE TOUR
Ecologist for a Day
The Hong Kong estuaries often comprise natural soft-bottom habitats including protected sandflats or mudflats, mangrove, reeds and seagrass beds. The tidal, sheltered waters of estuaries support unique communities of plants and animals that have adapted to the life at the margin of the sea as well as the aforementioned habitats. The estuarine species in this area belong to more than 10 groups of organisms and scatter around the various microhabitats. Through this tour, we shall discover and record the estuarine creatures, bivalves in particular, by sand digging activities.
